Bill Title: Amends the Election Code. Provides that notwithstanding any other provision of law, an individual who is 16 or 17 years of age may register to vote, with the registration held in abeyance by the appropriate election authority until such time as that individual attains the required age to vote. Effective immediately.

1 | AN ACT concerning elections.

2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||||
3 | represented in the General Assembly:
| ||||||
4 | Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing | ||||||
5 | Sections 4-8.5, 5-8.5, and 6-35.5 as follows:

7 | Sec. 4-8.5. Deputy registrar eligibility ; | ||||||
8 | pre-registration . Unless otherwise provided by law, an | ||||||
9 | individual who that is 17 years old or older who is registered | ||||||
10 | to vote in this State shall be eligible to serve as a deputy | ||||||
11 | registrar. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the | ||||||
12 | contrary, an individual who is 16 or 17 years of age may | ||||||
13 | register to vote, and shall be deemed competent to execute and | ||||||
14 | attest to any voter registration forms, with the registration | ||||||
15 | held in abeyance by the appropriate election authority until | ||||||
16 | such time as that individual attains the required age to vote.
