60 ILCS 1/55-5

Amends the Township Code. Provides that, during his or her term of office, a General Assembly member is not eligible to serve as a township officer. Specifies that this restriction applies to the election and appointment of township officers on and after the effective date of the amendatory Act.

1 AN ACT concerning local government.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Township Code is amended by changing Section
555-5 as follows:
6 (60 ILCS 1/55-5)
7 Sec. 55-5. Legal voter, and resident, and not a General
8Assembly member.
9 (a) No person is eligible to hold any office unless he or
10she is a legal voter and has been a resident of the township
11for one year.
12 (b) During his or her term of office, a General Assembly
13member is not eligible to serve as a township officer. The
14restriction in this subsection (b) applies to the election and
15appointment of township officers on and after the effective
16date of this amendatory Act of the 98th General Assembly.
