AN ACT concerning local government.
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
represented in the General Assembly:
Section 5. The Township Code is amended by changing Section
55-5 as follows:
(60 ILCS 1/55-5)
Sec. 55-5. Legal voter, and resident, and not a General
Assembly member.
(a) No person is eligible to hold any office unless he or
she is a legal voter and has been a resident of the township
for one year.
(b) During his or her term of office, a General Assembly
member is not eligible to serve as a township officer. The
restriction in this subsection (b) applies to the election and
appointment of township officers on and after the effective
date of this amendatory Act of the 98th General Assembly.
