Provides that no policy of automobile insurance may be cancelled where the basis for such cancellation is the insured's lack of a valid drivers license or valid instruction permit if the insurer failed to ask the insured for proof of a valid drivers license or valid instruction permit at the time the insured applied for coverage.

SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
215 ILCS 5/143.19c new

Amends the Illinois Insurance Code. Provides that no policy of automobile insurance may be cancelled where the basis for such cancellation is the insured's lack of a valid drivers license or valid instruction permit if the insurer failed to ask the insured for proof of a valid drivers license or valid instruction permit at the time the insured applied for coverage.

1 AN ACT concerning insurance.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Illinois Insurance Code is amended by adding
5 Section 143.19c as follows:
6 (215 ILCS 5/143.19c new)
7 Sec. 143.19c. No policy of insurance as defined in
8 subsection a. of Section 143.13 of this Act may be cancelled
9 where the basis for such cancellation is the insured's lack of
10 a valid drivers license or valid instruction permit if the
11 insurer failed to ask the insured for proof of a valid drivers
12 license or valid instruction permit at the time the insured
13 applied for coverage.
