1 AN ACT concerning transportation.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5Section 3-699 as follows:
6 (625 ILCS 5/3-699 new)
7 Sec. 3-699. Legion of Merit plates.
8 The Secretary, upon receipt of an application made in the
9form prescribed by the Secretary of State, may issue special
10registration plates designated as Legion of Merit license
11plates to recipients awarded the Legion of Merit by a branch of
12the armed forces of the United States who reside in Illinois.
13The special plates issued pursuant to this Section should be
14affixed only to passenger vehicles of the 1st division,
15including motorcycles, or motor vehicles of the 2nd division
16weighing not more than 8,000 pounds. The Secretary may, in his
17or her discretion, allow the plates to be issued as vanity or
18personalized plates in accordance with Section 3-405.1 of this
19Code. The Secretary of State must make a version of the special
20registration plates authorized under this Section in a form
21appropriate for motorcycles.
22 The design and color of such plates shall be wholly within
23the discretion of the Secretary of State. No registration fee,

1including the fees established under Section 3-806 of this
2Code, shall be charged for the issuance or renewal of any
3plates issued under this Section.
