Bill Title: Amends the School Code, various Acts relating to the governance of public universities in Illinois, and the Public Community College Act. Provides that if a public school, university, or community college holds any type of event at the institution on November 11, Veterans' Day, the governing board of the institution shall require a moment of silence at that event to recognize Veterans' Day. Effective immediately.

AN ACT concerning higher education.
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
represented in the General Assembly:
Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections
10-20.46 and 34-18.37 as follows:
(105 ILCS 5/10-20.46 new)
Sec. 10-20.46. Veterans' Day; moment of silence. If a
school holds any type of event at the school on November 11,
Veterans' Day, the school board shall require a moment of
silence at that event to recognize Veterans' Day.

Sec. 34-18.37. Veterans' Day; moment of silence. If a
school holds any type of event at the school on November 11,
Veterans' Day, the board shall require a moment of silence at
that event to recognize Veterans' Day.
Section 10. The University of Illinois Act is amended by
adding Section 45 as follows:

Sec. 45. Veterans' Day; moment of silence. If the
University holds any type of event at the University on

November 11, Veterans' Day, the Board of Trustees shall require
a moment of silence at that event to recognize Veterans' Day.
Section 15. The Southern Illinois University Management
Act is amended by adding Section 30 as follows:

Sec. 30. Veterans' Day; moment of silence. If the
University holds any type of event at the University on
November 11, Veterans' Day, the Board shall require a moment of
silence at that event to recognize Veterans' Day.
Section 20. The Chicago State University Law is amended by
adding Section 5-140 as follows:

silence at that event to recognize Veterans' Day.
Section 25. The Eastern Illinois University Law is amended
by adding Section 10-140 as follows:

Section 35. The Illinois State University Law is amended by
adding Section 20-145 as follows:

Section 40. The Northeastern Illinois University Law is

Section 50. The Western Illinois University Law is amended

Section 55. The Public Community College Act is amended by
adding Section 3-29.4 as follows:

Sec. 3-29.4. Veterans' Day; moment of silence. If a
community college holds any type of event at the community
college on November 11, Veterans' Day, the board shall require
a moment of silence at that event to recognize Veterans' Day.
Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
becoming law.
