| 1 | AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 2949

| 2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 2949 by replacing | ||||||
| 3 | everything after the enacting clause with the following:

| 4 | "Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections | ||||||
| 5 | 10-20.60 and 34-18.53 as follows:
| ||||||
| 6 | (105 ILCS 5/10-20.60 new) | ||||||
| 7 | Sec. 10-20.60. Active break required in elementary school. | ||||||
| 8 | (a) A school board shall require that schools provide an | ||||||
| 9 | active break for all students in kindergarten through grade 5. | ||||||
| 10 | The active break must total at least 20 minutes in length. The | ||||||
| 11 | active break shall include unstructured play and may include | ||||||
| 12 | organized games. If the principal determines that the weather | ||||||
| 13 | is inclement, then the principal shall direct that the active | ||||||
| 14 | break be held indoors. | ||||||
| 15 | (b) A school board may require that schools provide an | ||||||
| 16 | active break for all students in grades 6 through 8. | ||||||

| 2 | active break as a disciplinary action.
