core
curriculum

rules

requirements
for
all

districts
and

nonpublic
schools

include
at
a
minimum
satisfactory
completion
of
four
years

of
English
and
language
arts,
three
years
of
mathematics,
three

years
of
science,
and
three
years
of
social
studies.

(3),
Code
2024,
is
amended
to
read
as
follows:

The
rules
establishing
a
core
curriculum
shall
address

the
core
content
standards
in
subsection
28
and
the
skills
and

knowledge
students
need
to
be
successful
in
the
twenty-first
14
century.
The
core
curriculum
shall
include
social
studies
15
and
twenty-first
century
learning
skills
which
include
but
16
are
not
limited
to
civic
literacy,
health
literacy,
financial
17
literacy,
family
life
and
consumer
sciences,
and
employability
18
skills;
and
shall
address
the
curricular
needs
of
students
in
19
kindergarten
through
grade
twelve
in
those
areas.
The
state
20
board
shall
further
define
the
twenty-first
century
learning
21
skills
components
by
rule
.

Rules
adopted
by
the
state
board
of
education

on
or
before
the
effective
date
of
this
Act
relating
to
the

remain
effective
until
modified
or

rescinded
by
action
of
the
state
board
of
education.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
relates
to
the
state
board
of
education’s
duties
in

connection
with
the
core
curriculum.

Current
law
requires
the
state
board
to
adopt
rules
that

establish
a
core
curriculum.
The
bill
modifies
this
provision

to
instead
require
the
state
board
to
adopt
a
core
curriculum.
