Section 232.84, subsection 2, Code 2017, is 1 2 amended to read as follows: 1 3 2. Withinthirtyfifteen days after the entry of an order 1 4 under this chapter transferring custody of a child to an agency 1 5 for placement, the agency shall exercise due diligence in 1 6 identifying and providing notice to the child's grandparents, 1 7 aunts, uncles, adult siblings, parents of the child's siblings, 1 8 and adult relatives suggested by the child's parents, subject 1 9 to exceptions due to the presence of family or domestic 1 10 violence. 1 11 EXPLANATION 1 12 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 1 13 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly. 1 14 This bill relates to the identification and notification of 1 15 certain relatives of a child after an order for the removal of 1 16 the child from the custody of the child's parent or parents in 1 17 a child in need of assistance proceeding. 1 18 Under current law, the department of human services (DHS), 1 19 juvenile court services, or a private agency, within 30 days 1 20 of an order for a child's removal from the custody of the 1 21 child's parent or parents, shall exercise due diligence in 1 22 identifying and providing notice to the child's grandparents, 1 23 aunts, uncles, adult siblings, and adult relatives suggested by 1 24 the parents subject to exceptions due to the presence of family 1 25 or domestic violence. The bill amends the law to provide that 1 26 DHS, juvenile court services, or a private agency must identify 1 27 and notify such a child's relatives within 15 days of the order 1 28 for removal.
