  4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

  1  1    Section 1.  Section 633B.204, Code 2018, is amended by adding
  1  2 the following new subsection:
  1  3    NEW SUBSECTION.  10.  Relinquish any and all of the
  1  4 principal's rights of dower, homestead, and elective share.
  1  5    Sec. 2.  EFFECTIVE DATE.  This Act, being deemed of immediate
  1  6 importance, takes effect upon enactment.
  1  7                           EXPLANATION
  1  8 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
  1  9 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly.
  1 10    This bill provides that, unless a power of attorney
  1 11 otherwise provides and subject to certain restrictions
  1 12 contained in Code section 633B.201, an agent that has been
  1 13 granted general authority with respect to real property is
  1 14 authorized to relinquish any and all of the principal's rights
  1 15 of dower, homestead, and elective share. The bill is effective
  1 16 upon enactment.
