  1  1    Section 1.  Section 256.7, subsection 26, paragraph a,
  1  2 subparagraph (1), Code 2018, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    (1)  The rules establishing high school graduation
  1  4 requirements shall authorize a school district or accredited
  1  5 nonpublic school to consider provide that any student, at any
  1  6 grade level, who satisfactorily completes a high school=level
  1  7 unit of instruction has satisfactorily completed a unit
  1  8 of the high school graduation requirements for that area
  1  9 of instruction, and shall authorize the school district or
  1 10 accredited nonpublic school to of enrollment shall issue high
  1 11 school credit for the unit to the student.
  1 12                           EXPLANATION
  1 13 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
  1 14 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly.
  1 15    This bill provides that under the state board of education's
  1 16 rules establishing high school graduation requirements, any
  1 17 student at any grade level who satisfactorily completes a high
  1 18 school=level unit of instruction has satisfactorily completed a
  1 19 unit of the high school graduation requirements for that area
  1 20 of instruction, and the board's rules shall require the school
  1 21 district or accredited nonpublic school of enrollment to issue
  1 22 high school credit to the student.
