MEYER , ISENHART , JACOBY , LOHSE , and CARLSON A Resolution honoring the outstanding performance of 1 the Kirkwood Community College women’s basketball 2 team and head coach Kim Muhl. 3 WHEREAS, on March 23, 2024, the Kirkwood Community 4 College women’s basketball team defeated Johnson County 5 Community College of Overland Park, Kansas, to become 6 the 2024 National Junior College Athletics Association 7 Division II women’s basketball champions; and 8 WHEREAS, Jenna Twedt scored 18 points in the 9 championship game, leading the Kirkwood Community 10 College women’s basketball team to their 9th national 11 title in school history; and 12 WHEREAS, the Kirkwood Community College women’s 13 basketball team finished the 2023-2024 season with a 14 remarkable 35-2 record; and 15 WHEREAS, the Iowa Community College Athletic 16 Conference awarded players Demetria Prewitt and Jenna 17 Twedt with first team honors; Emily Dreckman, Kaylee 18 Corbin, and Zhakyla Evans with second team honors; and 19 freshman Lizzy Puot with third team honors; and 20 WHEREAS, head coach Muhl has now led the Kirkwood 21 -1- LSB 6380YH (4) 90 dg/jm 1/ 2
H.R. 116 Community College women’s basketball team to each 1 of their nine national titles and has accrued an 2 incredible 1045-171 record; and 3 WHEREAS, head coach Muhl was named the region 11 4 coach of the year for the 22nd time in his career; NOW 5 THEREFORE, 6 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, 7 That the House of Representatives honors the Kirkwood 8 Community College women’s basketball team and head 9 coach Muhl for their astonishing performance, and 10 recognizes the Kirkwood Community College women’s 11 basketball team as one of the best in National Junior 12 College Athletic Association history; and 13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That upon adoption, the 14 Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives shall 15 prepare an official copy of this resolution for 16 presentation to head coach Muhl, the Kirkwood Community 17 College women’s basketball team, and Dr. Kristie 18 Fisher, President of Kirkwood Community College. 19 -2- LSB 6380YH (4) 90 dg/jm 2/ 2
