Lunar
New
Year
originated
in
Asian

countries
more
than
4,000
years
ago
and
is
celebrated

by
billions
of
people
across
the
world,
including

the
United
States,
during
the
first
new
moon
of
the
6
calendar
in
February
each
year;
and
7
WHEREAS,
Lunar
New
Year
is
an
opportunity
for
the
8
state
of
Iowa
to
recognize
the
rich
history
and
culture
9
and
the
positive
contributions
of
Asian
and
Pacific
10
Islander
communities;
and
11
WHEREAS,
Lunar
New
Year
is
celebrated
worldwide
with
12
community
activities,
cultural
performances,
and
the
13
reunification
of
family
and
friends;
and
14
WHEREAS,
Lunar
New
Year
is
an
opportunity
for
15
people
to
learn
about
Asian
and
Pacific
Islander
16
cultures
and
traditions,
especially
in
light
of
the
17
rise
in
hate
crimes
against
Asian
and
Pacific
Islander

communities;
NOW
THEREFORE,

BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
HOUSE
OF
REPRESENTATIVES,
That

the
House
of
Representatives
recognizes
the
cultural

and
historical
significance
of
Lunar
New
Year
in
2024,

the
year
of
the
dragon,
and
expresses
its
