H.F. 480 Section 1. NEW SECTION . 914.8 Restoration of rights of 1 citizenship —— notification. 2 1. A person convicted of a felony criminal offense who 3 has been discharged from probation under section 907.9, 4 discharged from parole or work release under section 906.15, 5 or who has been released from confinement under section 902.6 6 because the person has discharged the person’s sentence, shall 7 be immediately notified by the releasing agency that the 8 citizenship rights of the person may be restored if the person 9 has paid, in full, any restitution assessed in the case causing 10 the loss of citizenship rights. 11 2. The notification provided pursuant to this section shall 12 include a brief description of the process in section 914.1 13 through 914.6 for restoration of rights of citizenship. The 14 notification may also include any applicable forms, internet 15 sites, and contact information that may assist the person in 16 achieving restoration of rights of citizenship. 17 EXPLANATION 18 This bill relates to the restoration of the rights of 19 citizenship for persons convicted of a crime. 20 Under the bill, a person convicted of a felony criminal 21 offense who has been discharged from probation under Code 22 section 907.9, discharged from parole or work release under 23 Code section 906.15, or who has been released from confinement 24 under Code section 902.6 because the person has discharged 25 the person’s sentence, shall be immediately notified by the 26 releasing agency that the citizenship rights of the person may 27 be restored if the person has paid, in full, any restitution 28 assessed in the case causing the loss of citizenship rights. 29 The notification required by the bill shall include a brief 30 description of the restoration of the rights of citizenship 31 process.
