  1  1    Section 1.  Section 272.2, subsection 1, Code 2017, is
  1  2 amended by adding the following new paragraph:
  1  3    NEW PARAGRAPH.  c.  Require the completion of one unit
  1  4 of mental health or mental wellness training as one of the
  1  5 six units required for renewal of a standard license with a
  1  6 secondary level endorsement or master educator license with a
  1  7 secondary level endorsement.
  1  8                           EXPLANATION
  1  9 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
  1 10 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly.
  1 11    This bill relates to license renewal requirements for
  1 12 teachers with a secondary level endorsement. The bill directs
  1 13 the board of educational examiners to require the completion of
  1 14 one unit of mental health or mental wellness training as one of
  1 15 the six units required for renewal of a standard license with
  1 16 a secondary level endorsement or master educator license with
  1 17 a secondary level endorsement.
