NEW
SECTION

Cyber
crime
investigation
1
unit.
2
1.
A
cyber
crime
investigation
unit
is
established
in
the
3
department.
The
purpose
of
the
unit
is
to
investigate
crimes
4
with
a
nexus
to
the
internet
or
computer
technology
including
5
crimes
involving
child
exploitation
and
cyber
intrusion.

2.
The
commissioner
shall
dedicate
a
minimum
of
two
7
full-time
employees
within
the
unit
to
investigate
cyber
crime.
8
Additional
staff
may
be
hired,
subject
to
the
availability
of
9
funding.

3.
The
unit
shall
have
the
authority
to
do
all
of
the
11
following
within
the
state:
12
a.
Conduct
investigations
and
forensic
analyses
of
criminal
13
cases
involving
computer
technology.

b.
Research
and
provide
training
to
assist
governmental
15
agencies
in
prosecuting
cases
related
to
cyber
crime.

c.
Provide
investigative
and
prosecutorial
assistance
to
17
governmental
agencies
involved
with
cyber
crime.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does

the

This
bill
establishes
a
cyber
crime
investigation
unit
to
22
investigate
crimes
with
a
nexus
to
the
internet
or
computer

technology
including
crimes
involving
child
exploitation
and
24
cyber
intrusion.
The
bill
directs
the
commissioner
of
public
25
safety
to
dedicate
two
or
more
full-time
employees
within
26
the
unit
to
investigate
cyber
crime
and
allows
additional
27
staff
to
be
hired.
The
bill
gives
the
unit
the
authority
to
28
conduct
investigations
and
forensic
analyses
of
criminal
cases
29
involving
computer
technology,
research
and
provide
training
30
to
assist
governmental
agencies
in
prosecuting
cases
related
31
to
cyber
crime,
and
provide
investigative
and
prosecutorial

assistance
to
governmental
