714.2,
subsection
3,
Code
2020,
is

amended
to
read
as
follows:

The
theft
of
property
exceeding
seven
hundred
fifty
3
dollars
but
not
exceeding
one
thousand
five
hundred
dollars
in

value,
or
the
theft
of
any
property
not
exceeding
five
seven
5
hundred
fifty
dollars
in
value
by
one
who
has
before
been
twice
6
convicted
of
theft,
is
theft
in
the
third
degree.
Theft
in
the
7
third
degree
is
an
aggravated
misdemeanor.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

Under
current
law,
the
theft
of
property
that
is
more
than
12
$750
but
not
more
than
$1,500,
or
the
theft
of
any
property
13
not
more
than
$500
by
a
person
who
has
previously
been
twice
14
convicted
of
theft,
is
theft
in
the
third
degree,
an
aggravated
15
misdemeanor.
This
bill
increases
the
dollar
amount
limit
for
16
the
theft
of
any
property
by
a
person
who
has
previously
been
17
twice
convicted
of
theft
from
$500
to
$750.
18
Theft
in
the
third
degree
is
an
aggravated
misdemeanor
19
punishable
by
confinement
for
no
more
than
two
years
and
a
fine
20
of
at
least
$625
but
not
more
than
$6,250.
