Section
1.
NEW
SECTION
.
154E.3B
Licensure
of
employers.
1
1.
An
employer
that
employs
a
person
to
provide
interpreting
2
or
transliterating
services
to
the
employer’s
employees
may
be
3
licensed
pursuant
to
this
chapter.

2.
Notwithstanding
section
154E.3,
a
person
employed
by
5
an
employer
licensed
pursuant
to
this
chapter
to
provide
6
interpreting
or
transliterating
services
to
the
employer’s
7
employees
is
not
required
to
be
licensed
pursuant
to
this
8
chapter,
but
shall
meet
the
requirements
for
licensure
under
9
section
154E.3.

The
board
shall
adopt
rules
pursuant
to
chapter
17A
for
11
the
process
of
applying
for,
granting,
suspending,
reinstating,
12
renewing,
and
revoking
a
license
issued
pursuant
to
this
13
section.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
16
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
allows
an
employer
that
employs
a
person
to
18
provide
interpreting
or
transliterating
services
to
the
19
employer’s
employees
to
be
licensed
by
the
board
of
sign
20
language
interpreters
and
transliterators.
The
bill
also
21
allows
a
person
employed
by
an
employer
licensed
pursuant
22
to
Code
chapter
154E
(interpreters
and
transliterators)
to
23
provide
interpreting
and
transliterating
services
to
the
24
employer’s
employees
without
receiving
an
individual
license
to
25
practice.
However,
the
bill
requires
such
a
person
to
meet
the
26
requirements
for
individual
licensure.
The
bill
requires
the
27
board
to
adopt
rules
for
the
process
of
applying
for,
granting,
28
suspending,
reinstating,
renewing,
and
revoking
a
license
29
issued
to
an
employer.
