  1  1    Section 1.  Section 261.113, subsection 5, paragraph a, Code
  1  2 2016, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    a.  The amount of loan repayment an eligible student who
  1  4 enters into an agreement pursuant to subsection 3 shall receive
  1  5 if in compliance with obligations under the agreement shall not
  1  6 exceed fifty forty thousand dollars annually for an eligible
  1  7 loan. Payments under this section may be made for each year of
  1  8 eligible practice during a period of five consecutive years and
  1  9 shall not exceed a total of two hundred thousand dollars.
  1 10    Sec. 2.  Section 261.114, subsection 5, Code 2016, is amended
  1 11 to read as follows:
  1 12    5.  Loan repayment amounts.
  1 13    a.  The amount of loan repayment an eligible student who
  1 14 enters into an agreement pursuant to subsection 3 shall receive
  1 15 if in compliance with obligations under the agreement shall
  1 16 not exceed five four thousand dollars annually for an eligible
  1 17 loan. Payments under this section may be made for each year of
  1 18 eligible practice during a period of five consecutive years and
  1 19 shall not exceed a total of twenty thousand dollars.
  1 20    b.  The commission shall not enter into more than fifteen
  1 21 program agreements annually, with the exception of agreements
  1 22 providing for additional loan repayment with surplus funds in
  1 23 accordance with subsection 7.

  1 25 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
  1 26 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly.
  1 27    This bill reduces the limitation on the amount of loan
  1 28 repayment an eligible student can receive annually under the
  1 29 rural Iowa primary care loan repayment program and the rural
  1 30 Iowa advanced registered nurse practitioner and physician
  1 31 assistant loan repayment program, and also eliminates a
  1 32 provision that prohibits the college student aid commission
  1 33 from entering into more than 15 rural Iowa advanced registered
  1 34 nurse practitioner and physician assistant loan repayment
  1 35 program agreements annually.
