SENATE RESOLUTION
URGING THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND CITY AND COUNTY OF HONOLULU TO REPLACE EXISTING CROSSWALKS WITH RAISED CROSSWALKS ALONG A CERTAIN PORTION OF NORTH ROAD.
WHEREAS, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding is involved in nearly one-third of all motor vehicle fatalities in the United States; and
WHEREAS, in Hawaii, speeding is a contributing factor in nearly fifty percent of all traffic fatalities; and
WHEREAS, despite the numerous crosswalks installed on North Road, speeding remains a serious issue along the roadway; and
WHEREAS, installing raised crosswalks is an effective method of slowing traffic; and
WHEREAS, installing raised crosswalks along North Road would help to reduce the number of speeding vehicles on the roadway and protect the residents of Ewa Beach; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2021, that the Department of Transportation and City and County of Honolulu are urged to replace with raised crosswalks any existing crosswalks along North Road between:
(1) The intersection of North Road and Fort Weaver Road; and
(2) Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Director of Transportation, Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu, Chair of the Honolulu City Council, Director of the Honolulu Department of
Transportation Services, Director of the Honolulu Department of Design and Construction, and Chair of the Ewa Neighborhood Board.
