SENATE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

REcognizing september 2010 as education AWARENESS and APPRECIATION month in hawaii.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, education in Hawaii contributes to the State's economic, social, and cultural vitality; and

 

     WHEREAS, Hawaii's keiki represent the future public servants, business leaders, and stewards of this great State; and

 

     WHEREAS, learning introduces our keiki to the world and provides them with the tools necessary for success by promoting confidence, self-awareness, tolerance, and respect for themselves and others; and

 

     WHEREAS, in 2004, speaking in support of the integrity of our nation's education system, Hawaii Senator Daniel Akaka said:  "I have witnessed how education opens doors, and I know that when sound instruction takes place students experience the joys of newfound knowledge and the ability to excel"; and

 

     WHEREAS, public, private, charter, and home schools all play a vital role in shaping the minds of Hawaii's keiki; and

 

     WHEREAS, the importance of education should be appreciated by all the people of Hawaii with a reflection on education's positive effects on each individual, regardless of the type of or particular school they attended; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2010, the House of Representatives concurring, that the month of September 2010 be recognized as Education Awareness and Appreciation Month; and

 

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that:

 

     (1)  The first week in September be dedicated to public schools;

 

     (2)  The second week in September be dedicated to charter schools;

 

     (3)  The third week in September be dedicated to private schools; and

 

     (4)  The fourth week in September be dedicated to home schools;

 

and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Education, the Superintendent of Education, the Executive Director of the Charter School Administrative Office, and the Executive Director of the Hawaii Association of Independent Schools.
