SENATE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
requesting the executive office on aging to evaluate the need for senior centers across the state and propose an expansion of the base amount of funding for senior centers in the supplemental budget FOR FISCAL YEAR 2018-2019.
WHEREAS, senior centers in Hawaii provide vital health education and screenings, fitness, recreation, case management, and other services for senior citizens; and
WHEREAS, senior centers enable thousands of senior citizens to maintain wellness, support, and independence, and avoid expensive institutional care; and
WHEREAS, senior centers are accessible and popular places where Hawaii's kupuna gather for social engagement and physical activity that contribute to their well-being; and
WHEREAS, senior centers help kupuna remain independent in the community and prevent costly institutional care that is often publicly funded; and
WHEREAS, there is an increasing need for senior centers across the State due to Hawaii's rapidly growing population of senior citizens; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-ninth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2017, the House of Representatives concurring, that the Executive Office on Aging is requested to evaluate the need for senior centers across the State and propose an expansion of the base amount of funding for senior centers in the supplemental budget for fiscal year 2017-2018; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, Comptroller, Director of Finance, Director of Health, and Director of the Executive Office on Aging.
