A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO HAWAII COUNTY YOUTH PROGRAMS.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $570,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2013-2014 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2014-2015 for grants-in-aid to the county of Hawaii for the provision of various youth programs, as follows:
(1) $100,000: Victory gardens for youth in North Hilo/Hamakua;
(2) $200,000: Perpetuation of Hawaiian cultural, or other similar, programs for two hundred youth island wide, including Ka Hana No‘eau (located in the rural North Kohala district of Hawaii island, this project has developed innovative mentoring programs for Hawaiian youth that meld traditional knowledge with contemporary technologies);
(3) $25,000: Agape camp for fifty children of incarcerated parents;
(4) $95,000: Lanakila learning center for at risk youth from Hilo high school; and
(5) $150,000: Five grants for underage drinking prevention community grants.
SECTION 2. The sums appropriated in section 1 of this Act shall be expended by the following departments:
(1) Item (1) by the University of Hawaii at Hilo, college of tropical agriculture and human resources, extension services;
(2) Item (2) by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs; and
(3) Items (3), (4), and (5) by the department of public safety.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2013.
