A BILL FOR AN ACT
relating to emergency management.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Chapter 127A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"§127A- Civilian unmanned aerial systems volunteer corps. (a) The agency shall establish the civilian unmanned aerial systems volunteer corps, which, if requested by the agency or a county emergency management agency, shall be available to support or assist state or county emergency management agency staff through the use of unmanned aerial systems when there is a need for disaster relief.
(b) The civilian unmanned aerial systems volunteer corps may include any volunteer that:
(1) Is a resident of the State of Hawaii; and
(2) Owns and operates an unmanned aerial system.
(c) The agency shall maintain a database of the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of all volunteers of the civilian unmanned aerial systems volunteer corps.
(d) All volunteers of the civilian unmanned aerial systems volunteer corps shall be entitled to the status, rights, and immunities of volunteers pursuant to sections 127A-8 and 127A-9."
SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2017.
