TWENTY-NINTH LEGISLATURE, 2018
STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to education.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 

     SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that Pā‘ia elementary school uses data analysis to inform instruction.  In addition to the general education program, the school is one of two Maui elementary sites for the Hawaiian language immersion program from kindergarten through grade 5.  It also includes a preschool servicing students with special needs.  The school has an inclusion model program through which special needs students attend general education classes.

     The purpose of this Act is to authorize the issuance of general obligation bonds to fund the planning, design, and construction of six classrooms at Pā‘ia elementary school on Maui.

     SECTION 2.  The director of finance is authorized to issue general obligation bonds in the sum of $18,900,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary is appropriated for fiscal year 2018-2019 for the purpose of planning, design, and construction of six classrooms at Pā‘ia elementary school on Maui as follows:

          Equipment                    $1,000,000

          Design                         $700,000

          Construction                $17,200,000

     SECTION 3.  The appropriation made for the capital improvement project authorized by this Act shall not lapse at the end of the fiscal biennium for which the appropriation is made; provided that all moneys from the appropriation unencumbered as of June 30, 2020, shall lapse as of that date.

     SECTION 4.  The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 5.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2018.
