HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TO PROVIDE EQUIPMENT NECESSARY FOR A FULL-SERVICE CONVENTIONAL KITCHEN AT KEAUKAHA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND TO PROVIDE NECESSARY positions TO OPERATE THE KITCHEN.

 

 


     WHEREAS, the Department of Education successfully completed the building of a new cafetorium with a serving kitchen for Keaukaha Elementary School in 2015; and

 

     WHEREAS, Act 180, Session Laws of Hawaii 2010, appropriated $8,000,000 for plans, design, construction, and equipment for a new cafeteria, ground and site improvements, equipment, and appurtenances for Keaukaha Elementary School on the island of Hawaii; and

 

     WHEREAS, most of the Keaukaha Elementary School cafeteria staff positions were moved to another school in the complex area while the new cafetorium was constructed; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Keaukaha Elementary School and Keaukaha community have continuously requested to have the kitchen be a full-service conventional kitchen and have their kitchen positions returned; and

 

     WHEREAS, a full-service conventional kitchen adequately equipped and staffed is necessary for Keaukaha Elementary School and the community it serves; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2016, that the Department of Education is requested to provide equipment necessary for a full-service conventional kitchen at Keaukaha Elementary School and to provide necessary positions to operate the kitchen; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Education, Superintendent of Education, Principal of Keaukaha Elementary School, and President of the Keaukaha Community Association.
