HOUSE RESOLUTION
recognizing and congratulating the HAWAII PACIFIC UNIVERSITY SOFTBALL TEAM FOR ITS ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS THE 2010 NCAA DIVISION II NATIONAL CHAMPIONS.
WHEREAS, school athletics has offered the students of Hawaii countless rewarding, challenging, and enjoyable opportunities to apply their physical and mental skills to competitive sports; and
WHEREAS, the HAWAII PACIFIC UNIVERSITY SOFTBALL TEAM's superb athletic ability, keen competitive spirit, and fine sportsmanship has earned them the prestigious 2010 NCAA Division II National Championship; and
WHEREAS, due to the superb efforts and outstanding talents of team members: Chante Tesoro, Kozy Toriano, Erin Fujita, Melissa Awa, Malia Killam, Chelsea Luckey, Ashley Valine, Ciera Senas, Breanne Patton, Pomaikai Kalakau, Casey Sugihara, Maile Kim, Ashley Fernanadez, Nicole Morrow, Sherise Musquiz, Laine Shikuma, Celina Garces, and Caira Pires, the HAWAII PACIFIC UNIVERSITY SOFTBALL TEAM has proven that, through dedication, hard work, school pride, and good coaching, they can achieve excellence as a team and as individuals; and
WHEREAS, under the leadership and faithful guidance of Head Coach Bryan Nakasone and Assistant Coaches Howard Okita, Roger Jovillo, Jon Correles and Richard Nomura, the HAWAII PACIFIC UNIVERSITY SOFTBALL TEAM has gained immense athletic training and discipline, cultivated admirable sportsmanlike conduct, and enhanced their athletic abilities; and
WHEREAS, through the winning combination of the fine coaching staff and individual members, the HAWAII PACIFIC UNIVERSITY SOFTBALL TEAM captured the 2010 NCAA Division II National Championship by rallying from a 2-0 deficit in the first inning and scoring 4 runs in the fifth inning to defeat Valdosta State of Georgia in a 4-3 victory on May 31, 2010; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2011, that this body hereby congratulates and recognizes the HAWAII PACIFIC UNIVERSITY SOFTBALL TEAM for their dedication and commitment which led them to become the 2010 Division II National Champions, and extends to them its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
