HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

recognizing and congratulating the kaimuki high school bulldogs varsity girls' basketball team on its 2010 Hawaii high school athletic association division ii state championship.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, school athletics has offered Hawaii's youth countless rewarding, challenging, and enjoyable opportunities to apply their physical and mental skills to athletic competition; and

 

     WHEREAS, the KAIMUKI HIGH SCHOOL BULLDOGS VARSITY GIRLS' BASKETBALL TEAM's superb athletic ability, keen competitive spirit, and fine sportsmanship has earned them the noteworthy 2010 Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division II State Championship; and

 

     WHEREAS, this outstanding team, which includes Canny Aikau, Pua Akaka, Nicole Chipen-Ii, Dejah Fa'asoa, Letishah Fa'asoa, Vaioleti Mikaele, Mikki Morihara, Keana Paez, Alison Pologa, and Tanya Villanueva, has gained immense athletic training and discipline, cultivated admirable sportsmanlike conduct, and enhanced their athletic abilities; and

 

     WHEREAS, this outstanding team is under the faithful guidance of Head Coach Mona Fa'asoa and Assistant Coaches Bronson Omura, Elia Akau, and Jerome Pacarro with the assistance of athletic trainers Kealii Loo and Nat Pada, team manager Taiana Loketi, statisticians Kara Hayashida and Mindy Hirokawa, and team mom Wendy Villanueva; and

 

     WHEREAS, on February 13, 2010, the KAIMUKI HIGH SCHOOL BULLDOGS VARSITY GIRLS' BASKETBALL TEAM upended defending champions Kahuku High School, 58-52, to win the Oahu Interscholastic Association White Title, greatly assisted by sophomore Dejah Fa'asoa, the high scorer with 24 points; and

     WHEREAS, for the week of February 17, 2010, Kaimuki Bulldogs Dejah Fa'asoa and Alison Pologa, who scored 20 points, were named to the Athletes of the Week Honor Roll for their stellar performances against Kahuku; and

 

     WHEREAS, on February 19, 2010, the KAIMUKI HIGH SCHOOL BULLDOGS VARSITY GIRLS' BASKETBALL TEAM beat Molokai 41-32 by recovering from a one-point deficit at halftime with timely 3-point shooting, successful free throws, and limited turnovers to give Kaimuki High School its first state championship; and

 

     WHEREAS, the KAIMUKI HIGH SCHOOL BULLDOGS VARSITY GIRLS' BASKETBALL TEAM won by using a triangle-and-two defense to smother Molokai's offense, limiting Molokai's top scorer to just six field-goal attempts for the whole game, and forcing 20 turnovers; and

 

     WHEREAS, much of the success of the KAIMUKI HIGH SCHOOL BULLDOGS VARSITY GIRLS' BASKETBALL TEAM is attributed to the cohesive and dedicated efforts of the entire team:  the coaches, athletic trainers, team manager, statisticians, team mom and athletes; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2010, that this body hereby congratulates and recognizes the KAIMUKI HIGH SCHOOL BULLDOGS VARSITY GIRLS' BASKETBALL TEAM, and extends to them its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
