HOUSE RESOLUTION
congratulating BRETMAN ROCK on his success across all social media, commending him for his contributions to supporting youth, and honoring his commitment and contributions to the State of Hawaiʻi, the United States and the world, including his continued efforts to support Native Hawaiians and Filipinos.
WHEREAS, the House of Representatives is proud to honor exceptionally talented and dedicated individuals who are able to tell stories that challenge the status quo and preserve and perpetuate Hawaiian culture and values for future generations; and
WHEREAS, BRETMAN ROCK is a Filipino-American beauty influencer and social media personality who has broken boundaries across media and has become a breakout star for coveted magazines, trailblazed new paths for representation in the world of entertainment, and cemented his legacy as a social phenomenon and influential icon for Generation Z; and
WHEREAS, BRETMAN ROCK, born in the Philippines as Bretman Rock Sacayanan, immigrated to Hawaiʻi as a child, where he now resides as a proud, queer, first-generation Asian-American followed by 50 million fans around the world and widely acclaimed as one of the leading voices of Gen Z; he is adored by his fans for his outstanding fashion and beauty sense, laugh-out-loud charisma, confidence, and anomalous personal brand, demonstrating that it is possible to conquer all business verticals and forms of media while remaining unapologetically himself; and
WHEREAS, since his first viral YouTube video a decade ago, BRETMAN ROCK has continued to garner accolades and honors such as being named one of Forbes' inaugural Top 50 Creators and 30 under 30 honorees and Variety's Power of Young Hollywood 2023 honorees; he is the first-ever openly gay male to be featured on the cover of VOGUE Philippines' inaugural Pride issue and has also graced the covers of magazines such as Attitude, NYLON MANILA, GayTimes, teenVOGUE, tmrw Magazine, and StyleCaster, among many others; and
WHEREAS, BRETMAN ROCK remains outspoken about his social advocacy and environmentalism and continues to publicly showcase his passion for causes that support youth, specifically AAPI and LGBTQ communities; in addition to partnering with nonprofits, including the Ocean Conservancy, Make-a-Wish Foundation, and Act to Change, he is also a co-chair with former First Lady Michelle Obama on the board of her voting rights organization, When We All Vote; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaiʻi, Regular Session of 2024, that this body hereby congratulates BRETMAN ROCK on his success across all social media, commends him for his contributions to supporting youth, honors his commitment and contributions to the State of Hawaiʻi, the United States and the world, including his continued efforts to support Native Hawaiians and Filipinos, and extends to him its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
