HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

URGING THE STATE OF HAWAII TO IDENTIFY AND APPROPRIATE PERMANENT FUNDING FOR THE HAWAII STATE ENERGY OFFICE.

 

 

 


WHEREAS, the Hawaii State Energy Office within the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism has duties prescribed by law and provides services essential to the welfare of Hawaii's people and economy; and

 

WHEREAS, the Hawaii State Energy Office is the lead state agency responsible for implementing the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative, which has introduced funding and technical resources to Hawaii to achieve energy independence from imported fossil fuels; and

 

WHEREAS, to adequately execute all the duties and responsibilities of the office, including its several branches, the Hawaii State Energy Office should have adequate funding and staffing; and

 

WHEREAS, the Hawaii State Energy Office is currently completely funded by the federal Petroleum Violation Fund and American Recovery and Reinvestment Act moneys that will expire by the end of the next fiscal year; and

 

WHEREAS, for energy system requirements to be met and federal participation in the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative to  continue, the Hawaii State Energy Office will require dedicated state funding; now, therefore,

 

                BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2010, that the State of Hawaii is urged to provide permanent staff and funding required by the Hawaii State Energy Office to fulfill its duties; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the State of Hawaii is urged to identify a permanent source of funding for the Hawaii State Energy Office; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor; Director of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism; Director of Finance; and the Director of Taxation.
