HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
Requesting the LEGISLATIVE REFERENCE BUREAU to complete a study on possible revenue generating activities at Sand Island.
WHEREAS, finding new and innovative approaches to generate revenue is important to the economic and financial future of our state; and
WHEREAS, Sand Island is state-owned and the park portion of Sand Island is underutilized and not well-maintained; and
WHEREAS, existing business, commercial, and water activities on Sand Island would benefit from new business enterprises, expanded commercial use, and development of new piers and berths at Sand Island Park; and
WHEREAS, in order to develop new revenue from state-owned land at Sand Island, new opportunities for development and commercial activity should be considered; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2013, the Senate concurring, that the Legislative Reference Bureau is requested to study and identify new opportunities for revenue generation from state-owned property at Sand Island; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the study shall evaluate the feasibility and benefits of the revenue generating opportunities, including revenue generating potential, cost, and other issues that may be encountered; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislative Reference Bureau is requested to submit a report of findings and recommendations, including any proposed legislation, to the Legislature no later than 20 days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2014; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Land and Natural Resources and the Acting Director of the Legislative Reference Bureau.
