A BILL FOR AN ACT
relating to the office of hawaiian affairs.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. (a) The office of Hawaiian affairs shall establish one full-time equivalent (FTE) permanent genealogies manager position.
(b) The genealogies manager shall:
(1) Gather, verify, and create a database of genealogies for persons who have claims to kuleana lands; and
(2) Consult and coordinate with the department of land and natural resources, the land division, the bureau of conveyances, and the land court to identify kuleana lands for which title has been quieted in favor of non-native Hawaiians.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2012-2013 to establish one full-time equivalent permanent genealogies manager position within the office of Hawaiian affairs.
The sum appropriated shall be expended by the office of Hawaiian affairs for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2012.
