A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to public officers.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 11, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part I to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§11-     State or county elected officers deemed to have vacated office upon becoming candidate for other elective office.  Any elected state or county officer who becomes a candidate for another elective state, county, or federal office shall be deemed to have resigned from the state or county office upon registration with the campaign spending commission pursuant to section 11-321 if the term of the office sought begins before the end of the term of the office held.  Vacancies arising under this section shall be filled as provided by law."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
