HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

H.B. NO.

1615

TWENTY-NINTH LEGISLATURE, 2018

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

relating to adult dental services.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1.  There is a significant need for adult dental services in Hawaii.  Insurance coverage for adult dental services through the department of human services Med-QUEST division currently only covers emergency treatment.  The lack of access to comprehensive dental care has led to some adults in Hawaii foregoing dental treatment such as for gum disease and root canals.  One result of adults not receiving proper treatment is that some have resorted to seeking dental care in hospital emergency rooms.

The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to the department of human services to provide Med-QUEST coverage for adult dental services.

SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $         or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2018-2019 for Med-QUEST coverage for adult dental services.

The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of human services for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2018.
