A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and work of Ms. Madeleine Kiker Anthony; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ms. Madeleine Kiker Anthony was known for her passion and involvement in her community, including her work in Dahlonega for historic preservation and the development of tourism for the North Georgia mountains region; and

WHEREAS, she helped form the Dahlonega Chamber of Commerce in 1954 and served as its executive secretary, treasurer, and director; and

WHEREAS, she established Dahlonega as the site of the first gold rush in the United States and played a vital role in the creation of the Gold Museum where she served as the museum curator until she retired in 1973; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Madeleine was inducted as an honoree by the Georgia Women of Achievement in 2003; and

WHEREAS, Georgia Women of Achievement was established to publicize achievements of Georgia women through an annual induction ceremony, a traveling exhibit, a website, and a teacher resource guide; and

WHEREAS, Georgia Women of Achievement provides information about role models to inspire Georgia youth and advocates the inclusion of women's achievements in educational materials; and

WHEREAS, each year, Georgia Women of Achievement honor three women who lived a life that inspired others to make use of their talents and who made exceptional contributions to society; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body honor the life and work of Ms. Madeleine Kiker Anthony and recognize the tremendous impact she has had on the preservation of history in Dahlonega and her promotion of tourism.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Ms. Madeleine Kiker Anthony.
