RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Ms. Michelle Smith Lank; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Ms. Michelle Smith Lank is the state recipient of the 2009 Georgia Occupational
Award of Leadership (GOAL), the first program of its type in the nation to honor
outstanding students in postsecondary technical colleges; and
WHEREAS,
GOAL brings together Georgia's business, government, and industry leaders with
the Georgia technical colleges to celebrate technical education's vital impact
on this state's workforce, prosperity, and future; and
WHEREAS,
for 38 years, the GOAL program has served as an excellent example of a true
partnership among business, industry, and education; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Lank was selected from among 34 college GOAL winners who have demonstrated
excellent academic and leadership ability at their respective technical
colleges; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Lank is an early childhood care and education student from Southeastern
Technical College, where she receives hands-on training that provides her with
the knowledge and skills needed in her chosen profession; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Lank will serve as an ambassador for technical education in Georgia,
representing more than 156,000 students who benefit from technical education
programs throughout this state; and
WHEREAS,
in pursuing her education, she has brought honor to herself, her family, her
college, and the Technical College System of Georgia, which she represents as
Georgia's outstanding technical college student for
2009.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body congratulate Ms. Michelle Smith Lank for her outstanding achievements and her efforts to promote technical education in Georgia.
