A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mothers Against Drunk Driving Georgia; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Georgia is a nonprofit, grassroots organization that serves all 159 counties in this state through leading the fight against drunk driving and underage drinking and promoting the support of victims; and

WHEREAS, volunteers work to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving through public education and work to make impaired driving laws tougher through their Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving; and

WHEREAS, MADD provides a multitude of services to bereaved crash victim families and injured crash survivors at no charge to them, including providing assistance, emotional support, and information to help them with the legal system, financial issues, victims' rights, state crime, victim compensation, DUI memorial sign program, and victim impact panels; and

WHEREAS, MADD also provides an outlet to crash survivors and grieving families through their victim impact panels, annual Victim Vigil, and Walk Like MADD; and

WHEREAS, MADD works to protect this nation's children by educating others on child endangerment in relation to drunk and impaired driving; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding work of this fine organization and its numerous contributions to the citizens of this state be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and support Mothers Against Drunk Driving Georgia in its efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of drunk driving, create tougher impaired driving laws, support victims and families of the crime, and stop people from drinking and driving.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the executive director of the Georgia state office of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
