A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Georgia State University's Legislative Health Policy Certificate Program and Advanced Health Policy Institute; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Georgia Health Policy Center at Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University has developed an educational initiative to inform members of the health community about pressing health related issues; and

WHEREAS, with funding from the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation, the Legislative Health Policy Certificate Program is a four-part course in which legislators and their staff are instructed on the areas of health care financing, coverage, access to care, and the impact poor health has upon this state; and

WHEREAS, the Advanced Health Policy Institute is a three-part course in which legislators and their staff who completed the Legislative Health Policy Certificate Program build on their health policy knowledge in the areas of health care financing, issue framing, systems thinking, and leadership; and

WHEREAS, for the Legislative Health Policy Certificate Program, over 15 state elected officials and their staff have attended at least one educational session, with seven Representatives, two Senators, and four staff members completing at least three Legislative Health Policy Certificate sessions in order to earn certification; and

WHEREAS, for the Advanced Health Policy Institute Program, over 15 state elected officials and their staff have attended at least one educational session, with 11 Representatives, one Senator, and three staff members completing at least two Advanced Health Policy Institute sessions in order to earn certification; and

WHEREAS, this bipartisan learning environment is led by talented instructors such as Rachel Ferencik, Dr. Karen J. Minyard, Dr. Mary Beth Walker, Mary Ann Phillips, and Brittney Romanson, who dedicate their time, talent, and energy to educating the leaders of this state on vital health issues; and

WHEREAS, the Legislative Health Policy Certificate Program and Advanced Health Policy Institute at Georgia State University provide elected officials and their staff with the skills to make informed decisions on health policy and legislation for the State of Georgia and are worthy of recognition.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Georgia State University's Legislative Health Policy Certificate Program and Advanced Health Policy Institute for providing high quality education to the leaders of this state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Georgia State University's Andrew Young School of Policy Studies.
