A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Thermus Butler for being inducted into the Chattahoochee Valley Sports Hall of Fame; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Thermus Butler is a graduate of Carver High School in Columbus, Georgia, where he was the football team's Most Valuable Player in 1964, led Carver to the school's first basketball playoffs in 1965, and was one of the nation's top 500 high school basketball players that same year; and

WHEREAS, he attended the University of Kansas, where he led the Jayhawks in scoring as a sophomore, and kicked a 38 yard field goal on October 29, 1966, to help them to a 3-3 tie against Kansas in a football game that is sometimes called the Thermus Butler Game; and

WHEREAS, he played for the Edmonton Eskimos in the Canadian Football League for three years, and led them in rushing with 879 yards in 1969; and

WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of this man is a clear indication of his outstanding athletic ability, dedication, and hard work; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of his athletic achievements on the football field, it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to honor the extraordinary commitment and accomplishments of this outstanding individual.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend Thermus Butler for his induction into the Chattahoochee Valley Sports Hall of Fame.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Thermus Butler.
