A RESOLUTION

Congratulating Warner Robins on making it to the Little League World Series; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Warner Robins Little League has been here before. In fact, the team from Georgia has now represented the Southeast Region in the Little League World Series three times over the past five years; and

WHEREAS, the Warner Robins team, which represents the city by the same name with a population of just over 48,000, claims quite a bit of Little League history. The team won the Little League World Series in 2007, beating Japan 3-2; and

WHEREAS, the city also claims to be the birthplace of tee-ball, and former resident Claude Lewis is known as the "Father of Tee-Ball"; and

WHEREAS, it is also the only city to have produced Little League World Series champions in both softball and baseball, as their softball team first won in 2009. That softball team also won the following year, making them one of only four Little League teams to win back-to-back titles; and

WHEREAS, to get to this year's Little League World Series, Warner Robins had to score a comeback victory against Tampa in the Southeast championship game. Warner Robins entered the sixth inning trailing Tampa 2-0, but scored four runs in the final inning to punch their ticket to South Williamsport, Pennsylvania; in that decisive inning, Jacob Giles knocked in the first two runs and hit what turned out to be a game-winning, two-out, two-RBI double; and

WHEREAS, this year's team fought its way through the losers bracket all the way to the semifinals before being eliminated by a team from the Keystone Little League from Clifton, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper that this group of dedicated athletes be congratulated on a great season; one that they will never forget.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body congratulate the members of the Warner Robins Little League Baseball team on an outstanding accomplishment and wish them continued success in the future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Coach Buddy Deal.
