A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Mayor Donald S. Walker; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Mayor Donald S. Walker on September 28, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Walker was born in Macon, Georgia, on April 3, 1949, a beloved son of the late Marian and Homer J. Walker, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, educated in the Houston County Public School System, Mayor Walker was a proud graduate of Northside High School in Warner Robins, Georgia, and attended Georgia College in Milledgeville; and

WHEREAS, he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United States Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and Fort Dix, New Jersey; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Walker entered public service after a successful career in real estate and was sworn into office as Mayor of Warner Robins in 1994, where he faithfully and expertly served until his passing; and

WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Mayor Walker was a lifelong and active member of Warner Robins First Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Walker was united in love and marriage for 39 wonderful years to his adoring wife, Patricia, and was blessed with the love of a daughter, D. Stephanie Walker, and two grandchildren, Joshua and Amanda; and

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS, a passionate and faithful leader, Mayor Walker will long be remembered for his love of family and friendship, and this loyal husband, father, grandfather, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mayor Donald S. Walker and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mayor Donald S. Walker.
