RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Edwin Jackson; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Edwin Jackson and the St. Louis Cardinals won the 2011 World Series
Championship; and
WHEREAS,
Edwin Jackson was born on September 9, 1983, in Neu-Ulm, Bavaria, West Germany;
and
WHEREAS,
he played for the Raiders baseball team at Shaw High School in Columbus,
Georgia, where he led the team to the 2001 GHSA AAAA State Championship title
against Columbus High School; and
WHEREAS,
he was drafted in the 2001 MLB entry draft out of Shaw High School as an
outfielder but was quickly converted into a pitcher by the Los Angeles Dodgers,
where he played from 2003 to 2005; and
WHEREAS,
before joining the St. Louis Cardinals in July of 2011, he played for the Tampa
Bay Rays from 2006 to 2008, the Detroit Tigers in 2009, the Arizona Diamondbacks
in 2010, and the Chicago White Sox from 2010 to 2011; and
WHEREAS,
through perseverance, countless hours of practice, and unyielding determination,
Edwin Jackson and the St. Louis Cardinals won the 2011 World Series
Championship; and
WHEREAS,
the phenomenal performance of Edwin and his team is a clear indication of their
outstanding athletic ability, dedication and hard work, unity of purpose and
spirit, and superb talents, as well as the astute direction of their manager;
and
WHEREAS,
as this magnificent athlete and his team earned well-deserved reputations for
excellence by performing with courage and precision over months of training and
competition, it is abundantly proper to call them champions.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Edwin Jackson on his World Series Championship and recognize him for all of his
athletic accomplishments.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Edwin Jackson.
