RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Marion Merck; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Marion Merck began his musical career at the age of 14, singing along with the
choir and congregation while sitting on the edge of a piano stool at his
father's church in New Holland, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Marion Merck has memories filled with experiences growing up as the preacher's
kid; and
WHEREAS,
at the age of 16, Marion joined three other preachers' kids and began singing as
The Four Sons Quartet, then moved on to The Regents Quartet, The Congressmen,
and finally spending 28 years with The Sunny South Quartet; and
WHEREAS,
after the retirement of The Sunny South in 2007, Marion realized that he was not
ready to leave gospel music behind; and
WHEREAS,
he collaborated with Tommy Brooks on the creation of a new group known as The
Lanier Land Boys; and
WHEREAS,
he believes the best years of his career in Southern Gospel began with the
creation of The Lanier Land Boys; and
WHEREAS,
he is blessed with celebrating his life with his wife, Pat, and his remarkable
four children, Tim, Paul, Sandi, and Lori, as well as his nine wonderful
grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
his lifelong love for gospel music and the creation of The Lanier Land Boys will
for forever be loved and remembered.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
Marion Merck for his amazing love for gospel music and numerous achievements and
commend his efficient, effective dedication to gospel music and to the people of
Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Marion Merck.
