A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Kennesaw Mountain High School art students; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, from 2004 to 2008, under the guidance of instructor Dr. Pam Carsillo, several art students at Kennesaw Mountain High School received special recognition; and

WHEREAS, the Allstate Festival of Art and Design award winners were: Kelly Bledsoe, Sean Perri, and Kay Pendergrass in 2004; Kaitlin Wright, Ciara Braun, and Daniel Worsham in 2005; Mallory Ingram, Leslie Shelnutt, and Molly Uhlig in 2006; and Mallory Ingram, Justin Lee, and Leslie Shelnutt in 2007; and

WHEREAS, the Young American VFW National Patriotic Art Contest was won by YeoJin Jung in 2006 and 2007; and

WHEREAS, in 2006, Kaitlyn Hackney, YeoJin Jung, and Kristen Mabes were all recognized in the Congressional Art Show; and

WHEREAS, in 2005, YeoJin Jung, Ryan Rutledge, Alexis Ruiz, Leslie Shelnutt, and Karly Wildenhaus were all recognized in the Federal Reserve Art Show; and

WHEREAS, Chloe Jondahl and YeoJin Jung were winners of the Parent Teacher Student Association Reflections award in 2004 and 2005, respectively; and

WHEREAS, in 2004, Greer Gunter and Jill Kirby were recognized at the National Youth Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, Kennesaw Mountain High School student winners of the Georgia Art Education Association Drawing Competition included Brittany Norman, Jenny Park, Sean Perri, and Karly Wildenhaus in 2004 and Julia Commander, Brittany Norman, and Katy Shaffer in 2006; and

WHEREAS, YeoJin Jung and Leslie Shelnutt were honored for their entries in the Atlanta College of Art Drawing Competition in 2005; and

WHEREAS, those recognized at the Capitol Art Show in 2004 were Laura Ayers, Ashley Johnson, Chris Koch, and Karly Wildenhaus; recognized in 2007 were Mary Margaret Bishop, Chloe Bouvier, YeoJin Jung, and Anne Nguyen; and

WHEREAS, Justin Lee and Chloe Jondahl placed first in the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust in 2004 and 2005, respectively; and

WHEREAS, Silver key recipients in the Scholastic Art Exhibition include Morgan Ingram and Jessica Thomas in 2004, Katy Shaffer in 2005, and Ben Caldwell in 2008; and Gold key recipients include Jenny Park in 2004 and YeoJin Jung in 2005; and

WHEREAS, Governor's Honors were bestowed upon Courtney Brown, Brittany McLain, Brittany Norman, and Kaitlin Wright in 2004; Brittany Norman and Rachel Spence in 2005; and Chloe Bouvier, Jason Carter, Gabe Kill, and Anne Nguyen in 2007; and

WHEREAS, in 2007 Sahadat Guevara won the Sand Blasters Rookie Search; and

WHEREAS, Visual Vibes – Artscape recognition went to Laura Chance, YeoJin Jung, and Karly Wildenhaus in 2005, and to Liz Brown, Eike Hunt, Gabe Kill, Justin Lee, and Anne Nguyen in 2007; and

WHEREAS, in 2007 Shea Lord won the American Council for International Studies National Scholarship Drawing; and

WHEREAS, the Cobb County community and the State of Georgia take great pride in the dedication and enthusiasm of these promising young fine arts scholars.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend these students of Kennesaw Mountain High School for their accomplishments and express best wishes for continued success in the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Pam Carsillo.
