A
RESOLUTION
Commending
Northside Hospital, Inc., owner and operator of Northside Hospital Cherokee and
expressing support for its efforts to build a new state-of-the-art hospital
facility in Canton, Georgia; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Northside Hospital, Inc., is a Georgia nonprofit corporation that owns and
operates Northside Hospital Cherokee located in Cherokee County, Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
the hospital is the sole acute care hospital located in Cherokee County, a
large, rapidly growing area that is the seventh most populous county in Georgia
with a population exceeding 225,700 residents; and
WHEREAS,
the existing hospital facility was constructed nearly 50 years ago and has
undergone several renovations and additions since that time; and although the
hospital has continued to ensure that high quality health care services continue
to be provided, the physical plant is undersized, inefficient, and not
configured in a manner to best accommodate state-of-the-art technology or
equipment or to grow to meet the future health care needs of the community;
and
WHEREAS,
Northside Hospital, Inc., has selected a parcel of land in Canton, Georgia, for
the relocation site for the new hospital which is located along the primary
north-south traffic artery in Cherokee County and is suitable for the
development of a modern, state-of-the-art hospital facility, related support
areas, and a complete medical campus; and
WHEREAS,
to enhance quality of care while providing more appropriate sized facilities to
serve the growing population, it is in the best interests of the residents of
Cherokee County to relocate and modernize the hospital at the new Canton site
that is easily accessible by residents of the entire county; and
WHEREAS,
Canton is the county seat of Cherokee County, the center of business,
government, and economic development for the county; and
WHEREAS,
a modern, state-of-the-art hospital will attract medical professionals to the
area, create jobs, and enhance the economic development and quality of life for
local residents and the citizens of this state; and
WHEREAS,
Northside Hospital Cherokee filed a determination request with the Department of
Community Health, Health Planning Division to confirm that the relocation of the
hospital within three miles of its current site is exempt by law from
certificate of need review; and
WHEREAS,
it is appropriate for this body to endorse and encourage the Northside Hospital
Cherokee development and support Northside Hospital, Inc., in its endeavors to
see the new medical facility that will greatly benefit many Georgians become a
reality.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Northside Hospital, Inc., and endorse and support Northside Hospital Cherokee's
efforts to relocate the hospital to the relocation site in Canton,
Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Northside Hospital, Inc.
