A RESOLUTION

Expressing opposition to requiring private health insurers to pay for the treatment of veterans' service connected injuries and disabilities; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, a proposal is being considered in Washington, D.C., to require private health insurance companies which insure military veterans to reimburse the federal Department of Veterans Affairs for the treatment of veterans' service connected injuries and disabilities; and

WHEREAS, a covenant between our nation and its warriors has existed since the early days of the Republic that any soldier, sailor, marine, or airman wounded or disabled in our defense would be cared for without reservation; and

WHEREAS, the American Legion and other veterans' organizations vehemently oppose any such plan; and

WHEREAS, the members of this body strongly believe that our nation's obligation to care for our wounded and disabled veterans is a sacred promise which cannot be dismissed.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY SENATE that the members of this body express opposition to any proposal requiring private health insurers to pay for the treatment of veterans' service connected injuries and disabilities.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Georgia congressional delegation.
