RESOLUTION
Expressing
opposition to requiring private health insurers to pay for the treatment of
veterans' service connected injuries and disabilities; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
a proposal is being considered in Washington, D.C., to require private health
insurance companies which insure military veterans to reimburse the federal
Department of Veterans Affairs for the treatment of veterans' service connected
injuries and disabilities; and
WHEREAS,
a covenant between our nation and its warriors has existed since the early days
of the Republic that any soldier, sailor, marine, or airman wounded or disabled
in our defense would be cared for without reservation; and
WHEREAS,
the American Legion and other veterans' organizations vehemently oppose any such
plan; and
WHEREAS,
the members of this body strongly believe that our nation's obligation to care
for our wounded and disabled veterans is a sacred promise which cannot be
dismissed.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY SENATE that the members of this body express
opposition to any proposal requiring private health insurers to pay for the
treatment of veterans' service connected injuries and disabilities.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Georgia congressional
delegation.
