A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. T.C. "Tom" Kahler; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, our nation's security continues to rely on patriotic men and women who put their personal lives on hold in order to place themselves in harm's way to protect the freedoms that all United States citizens cherish; and

WHEREAS, Mr. T.C. "Tom" Kahler has long been recognized by the citizens of this nation for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of the United States; and

WHEREAS, while in training for the United States Army at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, Mr. Kahler earned the title of Middleweight Boxing Champion on December 18, 1944; and

WHEREAS, Private Kahler demonstrated great strength and leadership during World War II, serving this country and his fellow man with honor, dignity, and courage; and

WHEREAS, after his dedicated years in the service, Mr. Kahler returned home to work for Southern Bell Telephone Company in Brunswick, Georgia, retiring after 35 years of superlative service for the company; and

WHEREAS, due to his first aid training he received while with Southern Bell, his sense of duty honed in the military, and his inherent nature to assist others, Mr. Kahler was able to take charge in an emergency situation and save the life of an infant who had stopped breathing; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Kahler embodies the spirit of service, willing to find meaning in something greater than himself and serving as a guardian of this nation's freedom, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished American be recognized appropriately.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Mr. T.C. "Tom" Kahler on his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the citizens of his country and the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. T.C. "Tom" Kahler.
