A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Columbia High School Eagles basketball team for capturing
their second consecutive Class AAA State Championship; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Columbia High School Eagles basketball team earned their fourth state title
in six years with their victorious 56-37 performance over Butler High School at
the 2011 Class AAA State Championship; and
WHEREAS,
this amazing team was ranked #35 in the nation by
ESPN The
Magazine and won the Arby's Classic
Christmas Tournament; and
WHEREAS,
through selfless effort, teamwork, and a strong determination, the Eagles have
proven they are a force to be reckoned with; and
WHEREAS,
the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of their tremendous
offensive and dynamic defensive talents and the excellent athletic ability, the
dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and spirit of each member of
the team; and
WHEREAS,
the team was led by the astute direction of Head Coach Dr. Phil McCrary;
Assistant Coaches Wallace Corker, Julian Houston, Mario Lemons, and Clint
McCrary; Statistician Fareed Rasheed; and Team Managers Constance McCrary and
Cynthia Prather; and
WHEREAS,
this all-star team included stellar athletes dedicated to bringing a state title
home to Columbia High School: Shamoi Allen, Stephon Allen, Jordan Anderson,
Kiair Crouch, Chris Daniels, Javonte Davenport, Damien Goodwine, Chris Horton,
Algie Key III, Nate Mason, Jade Mclendon, Jabari Menefee, Jarmal Reid, Tahj
Shamsid-Deen, Greg Smith, and Jhaustin Thomas; and
WHEREAS,
as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by
performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition,
it is abundantly proper to call them champions.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
congratulate the Columbia High School Eagles basketball team for winning the
2011 Class AAA State Championship.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the principal of Columbia
High School, Mr. Uras Agree.
