RESOLUTION
Declaring
Tuesday, January 27, 2009, as Disability Awareness Day at the state capitol and
commending The Arc of Georgia; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
The Arc of Georgia is the state chapter of the oldest disability advocacy group
in the world; and
WHEREAS,
since 1952, parents, citizens, and self advocates have influenced public policy
and worked to improve legislation for people with intellectual disabilities;
and
WHEREAS,
intellectual disabilities affect thousands of citizens in the State of Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
The Arc of Georgia and its chapters provide services, advocacy, and education to
citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
advocacy and education are the best tools to influence public policy and
awareness.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
Tuesday, January 27, 2009, as Disability Awareness Day at the state capitol and
commend The Arc of Georgia and its chapters for dedicated service to disabled
citizens of Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to The Arc of Georgia.
