A RESOLUTION

Congratulating the Wilkinson County High School boys basketball team on winning the 2011 GHSA Class A State Championship; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Wilkinson County High School boys basketball team earned the top ranking in the state through perseverance, determination, and dedication with a 75-68 victory over Terrell County, earning the school its fourth Class A state championship title and fifth basketball state championship overall; and

WHEREAS, the Warriors have an amazing 197-17 record since 2005, with an undefeated 2010-2011 season with 31 victories; and

WHEREAS, during the state championship game, the team was led by Vashone Jones, who finished with a game high 27 points, David Whipple, who had two 3-pointers and a total of eight points in the first quarter, and Jarvis Williams, who scored seven points in the second quarter; and

WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, the superb offensive and defensive talents, and the unity of purpose and spirit of each member of the team; and

WHEREAS, the team was led by the astute direction of Head Coach Dr. Aaron Geter, Jr., and Assistant Coaches Ken Austin, Fred Baker, Ervin Clowers, John Horne, Erwin Knight, Dexter Walker, and Xavier Whipple; and

WHEREAS, the championship Warriors basketball team is composed of talented athletes Darien Barfield, Emonte Curtis, Daiqwon Day, Devontaye Drayton, Alvin Dupree, Raheem Dupree, Breyun Jones, Martavious Jones, Vashone Jones, Hakeem Lewis, Jamerion Love, Jerame McCormick, Quan Renfroe, Deon Robinson, Kareem Sanders, Rontez Shinholster, Montel Smith, Demonzio Stubbs, Rhamad Thomas, Tevin Underwood, Antonio Whipple, David Whipple, Nick Whipple, Jarvis Williams, and Quan Williams; and

WHEREAS, the 2010-2011 Wilkinson Warriors were bolstered by the phenomenal support they received from Wayn Gasaway, Principal; Leslie Steele, Resource Officer; Devonte Dawson, Udarian Jackson, and Aaron Geter III, managers; Michael Shy, team bus driver; and all of the Wilkinson parents, cheerleaders, students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of the school who joined the Warriors on their state championship journey.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body congratulate the Wilkinson County High School boys basketball team for winning the 2011 GHSA Class A State Championship and extend their sincere best wishes for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Head Coach Dr. Aaron Geter, Jr.
