A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mrs. Mildred Ruth Dixon Passmore; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Mrs. Mildred Ruth Dixon Passmore; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Passmore was born in Cordele, Georgia, and was one of a pioneering group of
women, the "Fabulous Five," who became the first women of color to work as
school crossing guards in the City of Savannah, where she was responsible for
the safety of hundreds of children at Robert W. Gadsden Elementary School;
and
WHEREAS,
she was very active in the PTA at Robert W. Gadsden Elementary School, and she
served with distinction as the association´s first president;
and
WHEREAS,
she was very active in the civil rights movement, marching the streets of
Savannah for equality as a proud and active member of the NAACP;
and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Passmore was united in love and marriage to the late Ralph N. Passmore on
May 5, 1945, and they were blessed with six children, Alvin, Wendell, Ralph,
Brenda, Catherine, and Gwendolyn; and
WHEREAS,
she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and, by the example she made of
her life, she made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
she leaves behind family, neighbors, and loyal friends who will cherish her
memory and the wonderful times shared.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body express
their deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of Mrs. Mildred Ruth Dixon
Passmore.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mrs. Mildred
Ruth Dixon Passmore.
